To fund open access dissemination of journals in HSS and in arts and letters.
To develop a model that takes into consideration the financial capacity of documentary institutions and the socio-economical situation of journals.
To redefine the relationship between journals and research libraries.
To support an innovative and collaborative scholarly publishing ecosystem, based on open access dissemination and on the principles of open science.
Phase 2 - Going global (2018 - today)
The partnership model is now strongly rooted in the Canadian research community and is ready to grow even further, through the transformation of current consortium agreements.
Given that 70% of visits to journals disseminated on Érudit originate from outside of Canada, the model's internationalization aims to reach a better balance between each of the stakeholders.
Research project
We are conducting a research project in the UK with the help of Raym Crow, Senior Consultant at SPARC (sparcopen.org) and Managing Partner at the Chain Bridge Group to develop further the model in collaboration with UK libraries. This study aims to build an innovative open access model partially based on usage statistics, adapted to the economic and cultural realities of UK libraries.

BICfB - Belgium - 6 members
The "Bibliothèque Interuniversitaire de la Communauté française de Belgique" (BICfB) is a non-profit association created on May 9th 2000 under the auspices of the Belgian Conseil des Recteurs des universités francophones (CRef). This association aims to promote, coordinate and develop a common policy for university libraries regarding scientific documentation.
Consortium Couperin - France - 37 members
The Couperin consortium (Consortium unifié des établissements universitaires et de recherche pour l'accès aux publications numériques) is a non-profit association financed by member contributions and funded by the French Ministère de l’Enseignement Supérieur et de la Recherche.
Phase 1 - Developing the model (2014 - 2018)
In 2014, Érudit and the Canadian Research Knowledge Network (CRKN) developed a funding model for open access tailored to the needs of journals in HSS and in arts and letters.

70% of CRKN libraries are committed to the Partnership.
Moving wall lowered from 24 to 12 months
The implementation phase of the partnership model has allowed Érudit to lower its moving wall from 24 to 12 months, in compliance with the open access policy of Canadian and international funding organizations.
Support for journals in transition toward complete open access
Financial support - 90 journals transitioning to open access have been supported thanks to the partnership. Partnership revenues have allowed to provide the journals with the same amount of financing as with the subscription model. The final goal of the model conversion is to disseminate journals without a moving wall starting in 2022. Also, 28 journals already in Open access have received a financial support with the Partnership.
Strategic support - Thanks to the commitment of Canadian libraries, 4 journals disseminated on Érudit have transitioned to open access between 2014 and 2016, and 26 new journals in open access have joined the platform since 2014.
